Come out to Jacksonville's August Artwalk in downtown Jax and check out what Terese Muller and Joyce Gabiou have been up to. Our on-going collaborative work, "CONNECTIONS", has been a process of struggle, joy, frustration, laughter, despair, strengthening and testing of our friendship, abilities, spirituality and femininity. All in all, satisfaction and inner strength have prevailed. Please come out and see these works on Wednesday, August 3, 2011 between 5-9pm. At Studio 121, 121 W Forsyth Street.

CONNECTIONS
"Connections"
The name given to our body of work. Work in progress that is.
On your left is how Joyce and Terese started their collaborative
piece, "Links". We talked about producing an "atmospheric series" but that didn't last very long. We loved the movement and color but quickly
realized that it looked like a map. We were trying too hard. For a week
or more we tried to make something that didn't relate to us. We had to
get rid of the map and focus on composition. After several discussions
and glasses of wine we came up with what you see below.-Terese
This started moving along after laying down the links. It felt right and it started to sing to me. No, I didn't have too much wine. That's how I feel when a piece is coming together. It's like a song and the shapes dance and the rythem is right. - Terese
And this is the completed piece. Our first collaborative work. of (Gabiou/Muller)
CONNECTIONS CONTINUES
.

"Untitled" 2X4 on wood - This piece was created by Terese. After our first collaborative piece and surviving the struggle I felt a little more comfortable with my brush in hand. Joyce's intuitive and impulsive characteristics are rubbing off on me. I was able to complete this in a few days.
"Infinity" 2 x 4 - This acrylic palette knife painting was created on wood panel by Joyce. I think it was meant to be a collaborative work, but I got carried away before Terese made it to the Studio in time to help me! She was greeted by my remark that she should have stopped me 2 layers ago.
We then decided it was okay to work on separate pieces as well. Good thing. - Joyce

4X6 on wood
Work still in progress but we are really having fun at this point.
I do believe that we work quite well together. - Terese
